Mardi Gras Galveston

Mardi Gras.
You have read the story of Cinderella and the glass slipper . What if you mixed it with fear and loathing in Las Vegas by h.s. Thompson. I have went to many occasions and parties in which I had a fabulous time , yet I have never owned a city . Yesterday Galveston was our bitch. It was not given to us as the grand master , we just took it.
I got up early and put a rack on top of the world famous geo tracker. On the rack I attached 3, 12’ 2 x 4’s with 50 eye hooks. Slowly I covered the entire car and 8’ behind it with the fabulous 4 feet wide beach balls. At the same time in the warehouse across the street they were pulling out the parade floats. As my beach balls started covering the tracker I realized I was far more original than the monstrous boxy fiberglass creatures coming out of the warehouse.. It was just a small glimpse of what was about to become. I then dug out my bright blue pin stripped Zoot suit as cree was putting together her outfit which complimented the zebra stripped poncho. We looked awesome and off we went. We were a bit concerned that the only vision we had was out of the front windshield. To go through an intersection we had to reach out and lift the balls to see if it was clear. Within a few blocks we realized the police were pretty much going to leave us alone and let us Mardi Gras.
We spent the day just cruising around and jumping out at parties and clubs. Many times we abandoned the tracker in the street to mingle or have a drink. Clubs gave us free drinks and hosts of parties just turned the party over to us. A constant barrage of cameras were focused on us and the beach ball laden tracker.
For the Sea wall night parade we parked in front of the Poop Deck and went up for a drink. As we wound down and watched the parade and the people milling around our art car we reflected on how well the day had went. There was no float , no band , nothing which got the attention , smiles and joy that our wild abandon and creativity had done. WE Ruled ! As we saw the end of the parade approaching we realized our last opportunity of the evening and to the tracker we went. AS the last float creeped by we joined the parade! We had a grocery sack of beads and was immediately mobbed. After about 5 blocks we were out of beads and was beginning to think we were going to lose our Balls to the crowd. We decided we had to exit the parade . The intersections were full of people and Cree got out and made us a hole . As she parted the crowd barricades and police were visible. OH NO!! Cree with her head high grabbed a barricade and out we went. The police were a bit confused .Why was a float leaving the parade ? We waved like crazy and off to home we went to finish off the last bottle of wine , complimented with candle’s, smiles and giggles. We won! We showed Galveston how to Mardi Gras. The bitch is ours. Stay tuned ,, .
